Yazoo Sponge Alliance

The alliance is formed to bring key stakeholders and actors together in order to provide a resilient solution to tackle flooding in the backwater area from critical vantage points. It will advocate and implement nature-based flooding solutions that will benefit both the Backwater area community and wildlife habitat areas.

The first step is to leverage federal funding such as the Wetland Reserve Program and Flood Easements to help Backwater communities shift to incorporating wetlands into their farming economy. Before slowly introducing wetlands to Vicksburg to promote their port and tourism industry.
